In order to accommodate the rapid pace of development in the laboratory area, a cast-in-place column-slab system was used which provides a flexible and freely available floor area. A wide range of specialisations are concentrated at the laboratory centre: pathology, clinical genetics, microbiology, biochemistry and a blood bank. The laboratory centre has been designed to allow both the interior and the exterior to reflect the building's function and the precision and clinical cleanliness that characterises laboratory work.
Vejle Hospital consists of many buildings created over a span of 100 years.
The new laboratory will contribute to this history with its contemporary expression, while at the same time displaying respect for the older buildings. The laboratory is linked to the complex via a linking unit which houses a traffic thoroughfare, and which clearly marks the transition between the new and existing buildings.
