Arkitema Health

Arkitema Health is an active and inquisitive department of Arkitema. The department employs a staff of 30 persons in Aarhus and Copenhagen, respectively.
As the name of the department indicates, we specialise in patient-centred architecture, i.e. architecture and design of which the most important user groups are patients and health care professionals.
Arkitema Health develops specific and innovative projects which aim to improve social conditions and even out social and health-related differences.

People and health

Arkitema Health focuses on how architectural solutions influence human health, and is concerned with the area in which people at their most vulnerable and have a need for health-promoting surroundings and environments. We are therefore very concerned with understanding the fundamental mechanisms involved in the interplay between human beings and the environment. This knowledge is useful not only for Arkitema Health, but for all of Arkitema – as what is good for the sick, is usually also good for the healthy.

The user in the centre

The patients, together with their relatives and the staff, are always in focus for Arkitema Health. These are the users for whom the architectural quality must be measured in the first – and last – instance. Accordingly, user consultation is a central concept and tool for Arkitema Health. Such consultation may occur via user surveys, user processes and user analyses, but can also take the form of active user participation in research projects, conferences, media debates, symposiums, etc., at which Arkitema Health is often a contributor.

Our consultancy is always centred on interdisciplinarity and the project. As a result, the skills profile at Arkitema Health is both broad and deep in professional areas that support architectural quality and innovation.
