Two new orders in hand - targeted effort bears fruit

2. okt. 2008

In the past 10 years Arkitema Architects have taken a strong position in the hospital building area with important victories in both national and international competitions. At the moment. the Shenzhen People's Hospital is under construction. Soon the inhabitants of the south Chinese metropolis Shenzhen will have a 32-storey modern hospital of 113,000 square meters. Apart from the growth in the hospital sector, we have seen a fine development in the Polish market during the past year.

Arkitema Health

Arkitema Health is a growing business unit in Arkitema with 30 employees in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Arkitema Health has, together with engineering firms Moe & Breødsgaard, EKJ and Balslev won the competition for the renovation of Gentofte Hospital ward building with a cost budgeted at 1.2 billion. DKK over the next 7 years. The first stage is budgeted at 200 million. DKK and will begin within the next week.
The existing Gentofte Hospital will be renovated, so that in the future it will be one of the nation's most modern hospitals, with maximum flexibility in relation to the challenges of the future - both professionally and organizationally.
During the renovation, all hospital functions have to remain in full operation, and therefore the construction work will be performed in seven phases. Everything will be taken out of the buildings except for floors and some walls, after which the buildings will be rebuilt according to flexible and modern principles. This type of conversion is not a traditional renovation, but can be described as newbuilding with the reuse of the outer shell.

Arkitema in Poland

The task of building a new domicile, Postepu office, is not our only Polish commission. Arkitema has recently finished designing 700 quality homes for Sjælsø Poland, which are now under construction, just as we have reached a purchase and honourable mention in the prestigious open international competition for a new exhibition and educational centre in memory of Pope John Paul II in Krakow and a third prize in Gdansk in the competition for the European Solidarity Center, where 62 offices were pre-selected out of a field of 300 – all just in the last year.

The Sjælsø Postepu office will be located in Mokotów area, in the southern part of Warsaw - an area that is now undergoing rapid development with a number of exciting office buildings of high quality. With the Postepu office building the area will have yet another interesting office block. A domicile, that consists of two volumes, which are cut into each other around a 12-storey atrium. The two volumes mime a Ying Yang figure - a bright and shiny-glass building and a darker stone clad building, linking themselves together, and in the void between the two volumes a large bright atrium is placed, admitting light to the whole building and ensuring optimum work space.
