At a well-attended press conference today, Aarhus Municipality announced that Arkitema and the construction company Olav de Linde had won the commission for the Vestgrunden site with the project SHiP – Spa & Health Port.
On behalf of the unanimous selection committee, Nicolai Wammen listed SHiP's many architectural and urban qualities: "Aarhus will receive a fantastic waterfront, with unique architectural works which will testify in both their appearance and use to the high ambitions of the city."
Peter Thyssen, the municipality's alderman for Technology and the Environment, added: "SHiP has water, movement and well-being as its main attractions. The Health Culture Centre will provide a unique rallying point which will inspire life and activity in the area."
Kent Martinussen, managing director of the Danish Architecture Centre and representative of the professional advisory team for the selection committee, commented: "With this project, the overall waterfront towards the bay will present a strong and distinctive architectural whole for the city and the port, with major landmark qualities."
