A landscape, a city, a building

Landscapes and plans shape the spaces and the surroundings we move in. Spaces that affect our experience of the city, of each other and of the buildings placed in this landscape. In that respect a building can never be perceived as isolated – a building always relates to a context: A city or a landscape. And this is where the work of Arkitema Planning and Landscape begins. We make sure that the landscape and surroundings of our projects contain both meaning and value. That the buildings we shape are correctly placed in dialogue with their surroundings: A school in a learning landscape, an office block in a landscape that inspires, challenges or just provides pleasant surroundings for employees and customers alike. A dwelling with intimate exterior spaces, with views or plants, urban spaces to bring people together, guide traffic through the city with the least friction and provide identity to a whole city or a neighbourhood. We never look for a given shape or figure, rather our ambition is to create comprehensive compositions that are based on the intrinsic values of the site and warrant both soul, sensuality and special experiences.

An office within an office

At Arkitema Architects we set ourselves apart from most architects’ offices in Denmark by having an autonomous planning and landscape dept. Arkitema Planning & Landscape with approximately 20 employees in our offices in Copenhagen and Aarhus. Arkitema Planning & Landscape both pursues indivirual planning and landscaping assignments in the shape of town planning, landscaping, idea competitions, master plans etc and at the same time the department works closely with the building depths.

The tailor made solution

Historically city planning has been closely connected with ideology. An ideology about the strong, vibrant, the rich or the good city. We also have an ideology – and this ideology is based on cooperation. We want to work with our clients in developing our targeted designs in the best possible way – and this is what we call the tailor made solution. We are always on the lookout for interesting partners for collaboration and our general attitude is that constellations where equal parties both challenge each other and open up for each other result in the most successful and innovative projects.
