Building Smart

At Arkitema, we are highly focused on ways in which new technologies can help us to develop the architecture. We are therefore in the process of integrating Building Information Modelling (BIM) into our working practices. The BIM method represents a whole new way to communicate; a method in which data is efficiently provided to everyone working with the same model. BIM is an effective and 3D-oriented means of electronic communication which secures better communication between the stakeholders in a project, and reduces the risk of construction errors. The result is increased quality in both the design and the finished construction.

Building smart – in practice

BIM is a term for a special working practice in which constructional relations are established in the computer between the various geometric, functional, product and production-related objects and their properties. For this purpose, Arkitema utilises the object-oriented database program Autodesk Revit Architecture. Revit is a program which concentrates all the relevant information in one place. As a result, you only need to work in one file, as all the information is entered and stored in a single model – allowing Arkitema to work in a model- and object-oriented manner.

Arkitema's vision is to engage and fully involve all its partners in the development of Building Information Modelling to the greatest possible extent.

Arkitema's goal is for all its projects to utilise BIM/Revit by the end of 2008. To support this development, we have established an internal support network to secure the uniform introduction of Revit across the boundaries of the projects in Arkitema's departments, both in Denmark and abroad.

Around 100 staff in Arkitema have attended internal training courses in Revit.
