The production facilities of Fertin Pharma A/S represent the world's first project especially designed for the production of FDA-approved medicinal chewing gum. FDA approval means that Fertin Pharma A/S has access to the American market.
The project's fundamental concept was created on the basis of a functional approach to the factory's logistical and rational needs. At the same time, the production facilities have been optimised with the aid of a set of architectural values that increases its utility and enables future organisational changes.
The factory lies along a beautiful undulating terrain at the edge of a lake. The divided facade reflects the fact that the production halls are located on the ground floor, while the technical and administration departments are located on the first floor. This arrangement efficiently separates the differing hygienic conditions.
The lower part of the facade is transparent, with horizontal sun slats, while the uppermost part, which consists of dark, interconnected glass plates, acquires the character of a burning lantern. In the evening this effect is enhanced by its reflection in the lake.
The building's facade on the lake side is the representational facade, facilitating arrivals and providing a grandiose view of the natural surroundings from the production areas. In the building's rear, the facade has been prepared to accommodate future expansion.
The building's form is emphasised with simple details, discreet colours and materials that are inspired by the large production machines. The facade's slats give the building a feeling of lightness, and function as sunshades for the building's glass facades, without impeding the view of the lake.
