The production plant in Koprivnice is the result of Bang & Olufsen’s new production strategy, in which part of the production has been outsourced to the Czech Republic as an element in a rationalisation process. The first phase contains an assembly plant with associated offices and warehouse.
The project has been designed as a storey-divided complex which can be flexibly developed to house component production, assembly and pre-assembly lines. The complex consists of functional modules, office modules, production modules and warehouse modules, as well as installation and service modules, which have been structured with a view to creating optimum and flexible possibilities for the production plant to develop to match the given needs.
The architecture of the complex is based on its modular construction, with the buildings at all times comprising a finished structure which provides a formally integrated complex and at the same time presents a simple and rational appearance that is in harmony with Bang & Olufsen’s values.
The building takes the form of a dark ‘box’ which opens up against the beautiful mountainous landscape, in a glass structure which is “placed in” a large building frame that unites the administration and production areas in a single building body. The production areas have a wide glass window strip to the floor, thereby making the fine view part of the daily routine, as a value which emphasises B&O’s attitude towards its staff and its desire to strive for quality in all contexts.
