Drawing inspiration from the simple lines of traditional waterfront buildings and harbour warehouses, the nine new buildings stand just a few metres from the water.
The new harbour buildings are detached houses, thereby preserving the harbour's open structure. For the same reason, the houses are not closed off with private and sharply demarcated gardens, but rather allow the harbourside area to adjoin the buildings as an open, semi-private outdoor area.
The use of materials such as wood, glass, asphalt board and zinc further underline the contrast between the new buildings and the brick and plaster houses of the old town. The new forms and expression also consciously emphasise the new use of the harbour, as well as enhancing the waterfront atmosphere of the area. The Faaborg waterfront thereby attains its own special and coherent identity.
The buildings are clad in wood, and the roofs are covered in asphalt board. The balconies and windows appear as though carved into the basic form of the buildings. These simple lines and light appearance give the development its special identity, which relates to the history of the location.
Both residential areas offer a fabulous view southwards across the water. The highly transparent south-facing facades provide light throughout the houses, while the north-facing sides have more closed arrival areas.
