Denmark has a long and proud tradition of building terraced houses. Terraced houses are a sociable form of housing, in which you live in your own house, but alongside your next-door neighbours.
Åkrogen is a new interpretation of the traditional terraced house. Using conscious displacement, the facade forms a dynamic structure which secures both the best possible natural light conditions and a good view for all of the houses. The sea view is enhanced by the fact that the buildings are raised up along an existing dyke between the beach and the preserved shoreline areas. The dyke creates staggered levels, which the houses absorb in the form of a parterre level and a built-in carport with direct access to the home. The development consists of a total of eighteen exclusive terraced houses.

The houses are placed in a semi-circular arrangement, which has been deliberately chosen to create a protected recreational niche: a common area where the children can play ball games while the adults chat and enjoy the view – another motif which emphasises the community-oriented aspect of the development.

The development's form language is clearly inspired by Nordic functionalism, as can be seen in Åkrogen's simple and geometric forms, few materials and white appearance.

The heart of each house is a large and bright living-room, oriented towards the south-east. Here the roof is raised slightly above the terrace, opening the house up to the sea view and the daylight. On the opposite gable, each home has a balcony where the afternoon and evening sun can be enjoyed.
